Gossip - Unfruitful and Ungodly Speech
Where Did This Start?
I believe that gossip started in the Garden of Eden. It started with The Satan. He gossiped against the Most High. He stated, “You shall not surely die.” He was setting up the cycle of gossip by injecting the venom of doubt into the minds of Adam and Eve.
What Is Gossip?
Casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.
What Does YHWH Say About It?
"Thou shalt not go up and down [as] a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I [am] YHWH." – Leviticus 19:16
Was It Tried Against the Messiah?
Then was Y’Shua led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungerd. And when the tempter came to him, he said, “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” But he answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in [their] hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.” “Y’Shua said unto him, “It is written again, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, “All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” Then saith Y’Shua unto him, “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” - Matthew 4:1-10
We see that every time the tempter came to the Master he twisted the truth, and this is the basis for all gossip. It has some truth to it but it is tainted with fleshly and worldly opinions and lies. When we listen to this, it leads us astray.
How Should You and I Deal With Gossip and Rumors?
When someone approaches you with speech about someone else, try the following:
- STOP! Tell them that you have a policy that you don’t listen to information that is not confirmed. Ask them before they speak a word, is the information confirmed? Is this blessed of Heaven? What is your intention in sharing it? Is it firsthand information?
- KEEP MOVING. It is hard to hit a moving target! If you know someone has loose lips, don’t speak with them.
- SPEAK THE WORD. Y’Shua stated, “It is written” This is what should have happened in the Garden of Eden. It is what happened with the Master in Matthew chapter 4. It is what should be taking place with us. The more we respond with “It is written” The more our lives are blessed.
